The Foundation for the Support of Victims
of Terrorism (NFSVT) has pledged to focus on
economically empowering women and educating
children that have fallen victim to the Boko Haram
terror.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Prof.
Sunday Ochoche, stated this during a courtesy
visit to Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim
Shettima, at the Government House in Maiduguri.
Ochoche said the focus of the foundation would
engage all the various communities affected by
Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State and the
North East sub-region of the country.
“We will be here in Borno state and other states
affected by insurgency in the medium and long-
run in rebuilding all the destroyed towns and
villages, so that the over 2 million displaced
persons return to their respective communities,”
said Ochoche.
He said the committee’s main focus was on
economic empowerment of women and the
education of children, who had never been in
schools since May last year at the height of the
terror.
He added that the number of children out of
schools and colleges, since the commencement
of insurgency in Borno State was “in tens of
thousands.”
Ochoche explained that the empowerment of
women would also make them productive instead
of remaining in resettlement camps in Maiduguri
metropolis and Biu.
He said even though the committee was
mandated to raise more funds into Victims
Support Fund (VSF), only 40 percent of the
pledges were redeemed. – CAJ News
