Beat Congo 3-0 and get $190,000, Wike tells dream team

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has pledged
$190,000 to the Nigerian Dream Team VI if they
triumph 3-0 against their Congolese counterparts
in the Olympic Games qualifying encounter at the
Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday.
Wike charged the Nigerian team to defeat their
Congolese opponents convincingly, promising to
add $30,000 for each goal scored and $100,000
for three goals.
He also charged the team not to allow the
Congolese score a goal or draw the match.
Speaking after watching the team’s training at the
Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Friday, Wike said
he had confidence that the players would do the
country proud.
He observed that the quality of training and deft
moves displayed by the players indicated that they
were fit and prepared for the match.
Commenting on the stadium, the governor said the
state government had upgraded the facilities in the
stadium to international standard.
He said, “We decided to host this match to show
Nigeria Football Federation that we have the facility
to host international matches.
“To the players, you need to win this match for the
country. You get all the needed support. If you
score a goal, you get $30,000. If you score three
goals, you get $100,000.”
The governor explained that the current standard
of the stadium would attract more international
matches for the state, stressing that the state was
prepared for such matches.
Wike pointed out that the state’s investment in
sports was targeted at developing talents and
creating employment opportunities.
Team coach, Sampson Siasia, commended the
governor for the motivation, expressing confidence
